New Azure Portal – Resource Linking

I came across a realy cool feature in the new windows azure portal (manage.windowsazure.com)

If you look carefully under the Cloud service section you will find that there is tab named Linked Resources.

Typically your azure application will use either SQL Azure or Azure Storage or just both services.
Well it will be great to view your own use of those storage services under the same cloud service,
and that is the reason why the Azure team made it possible to logically  link your cloud service to the storage service that you are using.
At this current time you able to link to your cloud service only to your SQL Azure instance, i guess it wont be that long till your azure storage accont would  linked as well.

So what is it good for you ask?

  1. Scale your application from the same Scale section.
  2. Direct link to the your database section under the Storage tab.
  3. Simple monitoring  your storage (currently only database capacity management available from the dashboard section link to the storage tab in the portal).

To summarize this is pretty simple feature in the azure portal but yet again it seems that some one understands that even in the clouds people are involved 🙂
